Final Cut: What we have changed

From making our first cut and the feedback we received from it there are a few changes that we made in the final cut.

Music
The key problem with the music we used in our first draft was that it was copyrighted as we were still trying to find royalty free music that would fit our trailer and help create the right atmosphere in the trailer. In the first viewing wee used Cinematic Orchestra's Arrival of the Bird, however for our final draft we changed this to a classical piece, very similar to the Cinematic Orchestra off the website royaltyfreemusic.com.
We decided to use music which was professionally made in our final piece, opposed to music we could have created ourselves using garage band, because we personally thought helped to create deeper emotional ties to the storyline and characters by creating a sentimental and empathetic atmosphere in the trailer. A code an convention of our chosen genre.
We also believed it helped create a more professional  media piece which would be comparable to
existing media products such as the trailer for Another Earth which uses the Cinematic Orchestra music in
their trailer.

Title Screen
From our audience feedback many people commented on the title screens as something they would change
if they had to in our questionnaire from the viewing.
We changed some of the title screen to say time instead of era and also included another Title screen Same
Age to help explain the storyline further.

Voiceover
Although we had the intentions after our first screening to use a voiceover our trailer to help explain our
storyline after the feedback we got from the questionnaire and our own thoughts we decided we didn't need
one. Only one person in the questionnaire said they didn't understand our trailer and 19 people said they
understood it perfectly. We also asked some people their thoughts on whether we needed a voiceover in our
trailer.
"I think the title screens are fine. I got the storyline, and I think if you had a voiceover it might be a bit too
much and make the trailer look a bit cliché"
"I think it might ruin the atmosphere of your trailer."

Rose Shots
From our audience feedback we saw that most people liked the rose shots as one the things they most liked
about the trailer, so we made sure that had to create similar shots to the ones we used in our First Cut which
was off professional footage on youtube.
Although the footage we originally used was a time-lapse of a flower, due to technical difficulties we were
unable to create a time lapse and instead used footage of a flower burning to represent death and rebirth.
However we made sure to use the rose in the same places in our first draft and use a red rose as it carries
connotations of romance and danger, something also hinted at in our trailer storyline.

News Footage
As a few people commented that some shots lacked clarity and they wanted more depth into the past shots
we used footage from old films and news which would help the audience understand the change in time
and the era it was around. For example in our trailer we show images of the Queen's coronation to project
the 1950's and images of war in the middle east and President Clinton to show the 1990's.
Although we had nothing like this in our trailer prior to the first showing we decided to develop and
challenge our chosen genre and its conventions by using news montages seen in thrillers to show time and
chaos, for example Another Earth and World War Z which uses News like montages to show the ongoing
Zombie attacks.

Technicalities
We also changed and refined some of our editing and post-production such as tints an effects on shots to
create continuity in some editing. We also cropped some shots so lighting in the background wasn't visible
any more, creating a more professional looking media product.
